It is beautiful!! Just like it is - the old finish - certainly looks antique. If you paint it white, it might as well be some garish new boring one. That's the only reason I think something should be painted white - when it is ugly! Not when it is already full of character and beauty. I think it is classy...

I can't wait to see what everybody says because I have two just like it and I cannot decide either. I've had them for over two years and yet they sit.

I do think it looks beautiful the way it is, but I'm going to vote paint it! I love the way white looks with crystals!!!

I usually am on the side of paint it (white) but this one looks wonderful as is! Get another one and paint it white!!

ooooo, paint it!

I would leave it as it is...or use a rub of patina.
Or a Verdigris kit. Love it!

HAHA! Doesn't look like we're going to be much help to you! Like most are saying, it looks great the way it is. HOWEVER, if you're looking for a change, white would look excellent against the crystals, especially if it's painted a vintage white, maybe even rubbed off a bit?

It has a wonderful patina already, if it was a garish bright brassy color, I'd say paint. As it is I wouldn't touch it....wish I had one!!!!

I have to admit, I'm kinda loving it as is. There are so many wonderful etched details, I would be afraid they would get lost in a coat of paint..... What ever you decide I am sure will be lovely.

It is a fabulous finish - as much as I love to paint - I think I'd leave it as is! Let us know what you decide! :)

It's gorgeous as it is but I'd paint it. There is something so pretty about white chandeliers... a fresh crisp coat of paint... the perfect shabby touch.

You have a beautiful blog.

Cheers!

Dear Andrea -

Since you have a lot of 'dark notes' in your home - the floor, the painting, etc. - I'd leave it dark.

Also, I'm interested in linking up to your party, but I need the deadline in the sidebar for my readers. Please email me at
zuzu.foster@gmail.com

Great blog!

Hi Andrea,
I think it is really pretty as it is. I love things painted white, but I think I would leave it as it is.

Hi Sweetie
I have had quite a few of those in the shop and I painted everyone of them white with a distressed finish and they look great!
Hope you had a great day yesterday and wishing you a wonderful week.

Your blog is so wonderfully shabby. I have become a follower. Check out my something special blog and see my Wonderfully shabby post. I was going to paint this nightstand, but got to looking at it and just decided to clean it up and leave it alone. Sometimes doing this is just the ticket!

everything always looks better painted white!

I usually paint just about everything, but am going through a similar dilema right now.
Sometimes, the contrast of the darker metal looks good with all of the white, doesn't it?

Elyse said...

it is beautiful as-is but i say paint it! white will be perfect. might even be fun to add a little rub 'n buff afterward to the curves. ooh la la!

Hi Andrea,
I just found your blog and I absolutely love it! Your style is right up my alley. I love your chandelier, I have one quite similar and mine is white. As much as I love white, leave it the way it is. It's gorgeous with its original patina.
Have a great day.
Sincerely,
Melinda
